Young Kiwi leaders are passionate about justice and ready to take action

Like you, we believe this generation has what it takes to change the world. We’re passionate about educating, inspiring and empowering young leaders near and far. And learning a thing or two from them too!

That’s why, for 40 years, the World Vision Senior Scholarship summit has developed and invested in senior high school students.

For three days in January, Year 12 and 13 student scholars from around Aotearoa participated in an action-packed, immersive event that helped them develop as leaders with a critical understanding of social justice issues.

They left the summit with the tools to lead global and local change projects they’re passionate about, including the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge.

It was truly eye-opening,” shares Matthew from St Paul’s Collegiate. “To see so many like-minded students who cared about social justice was inspiring… I learnt so much about the world and others.

This year, scholars heard from some incredible speakers, including Matua Lionel and Whaea Val from Papatūānuku Kōkiri Marae, artist and storyteller Koffie Fugah from Ghana, as well as some of our wonderful World Vision whānau who are inspiring the next generation of global changemakers.

Connor from Kingsway School reflected, “the 2023 Senior Scholarship Summit truly opened my eyes to how we should view progress as leaders and as those who fight for social change - learning to reflect on the mistakes AND successes of the past to maximise impact in the present for the future is so poignant.

The World Vision Senior Scholarship Summit embodied the Maori principle whanaungatanga meaning connection, unity and developing relationships through shared experiences,” says Katelyn from St Kentigern College.

We acknowledge we’re able to host this event in Aotearoa because of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and endeavour to honour that commitment.

And we can’t wait to see these 30 amazing world-changers put everything they learnt into action. Let’s go!
