Welcome to the Cook for a Cause page set up by a group of young student leaders from Wakatipu High School in Queenstown.
We’ve cooked up an innovative fundraiser to feed families in need around New Zealand, while also raising money for Syrian refugees.
There are nineteen of us involved and we’ve launched ‘Cook for a Cause’ to make as many meals as possible over a 40-hour time period from June 9 to 11.
The goal is to make 6000 meals which will then be packaged, frozen, and distributed to the respective City Missions of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, as well as Queenstown’s Happiness House.
Members of the public are being asked to donate to the cause on this page, effectively ‘sponsoring’ us over the 40-hour weekend.
The beauty of the idea is that we’re recognising that there are individuals, families and children in New Zealand who need help and that charity starts at home.
The meals are urgently needed here and very much welcomed by the charities within New Zealand. However as we’ve worked really hard to get the major meal components being donated by New Zealand companies, while others are donating use of a commercial kitchen, packaging, freezing and delivery services, that means all the money raised can be directed to help the millions of Syrian refugees who have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety.
We are showing the world what can happen when our generation is united.
We are standing side by side with our brothers and sisters in Syria and giving them a chance to piece their lives back together.
We would greatly appreciate any donations! As an example $20 can help restore a child’s right to education with a complete stationery pack, or $45 can provide nutritious food for a child attending school for a term.
Through World Vision's Child Friendly Spaces we can help provide safe, supportive places where kids have access to arts, sports, education and counselling so they can start to recover from the trauma of war, and be given the chance to be kids again.
