Odupi community is in the West Nile region and is one of Uganda’s poorest communities. Now home to South Sudanese refugees who crossed the border to escape violence with more than 80% being women and children, including kids who’ve been separated from their parents.

Sponsorship is helping to tackle three challenges facing children in Odupi:
  1. Many kids can’t read or understand what they read, and school drop-out rates are high.
  2. Tensions can exist between refugee and host families.
  3. Children are vulnerable to violence and early marriage.

Together, we are tackling the hard problems, changing mindsets and behaviours to address the root causes of poverty. We’re focusing on building trust and developing a long-term action plan for Odupi community.

Winston Churchill referred to Uganda as the “Pearl of Africa” on his tour there in 1908 and the name has stuck.

Uganda’s dense forests, mountain ranges, lakes and savannas have enticed travellers for decades.

Filled with breath-taking landscapes and an abundance of flora and fauna – including the so-called African big 5 (lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and rhinos).

Uganda is also home to Lake Victoria, the second biggest lake in the world and one of the sources of the Nile River.
