CHILDHOOD RESCUE
Syria

Syria’s children have lived with more than 15 years of war. Now renewed conflict in the Middle East means they are once again trapped in a cycle of conflict and chaos.

Syria's children are living through a crisis with no end in sight

Syrian children need your help. They have lived with the fear and uncertainty of war, economic collapse, displacement and hunger for nearly their entire lives. Many children have only ever known a tent as a home and have lost loved ones and everything familiar to them. Nine out of every ten Syrians is living in poverty and nearly 12 million people cannot get enough to eat each day. Years of violence and war means children carry deep emotional and psychological wounds and will do so possibly for their entire lives. Many Syrian children are living as refugees in neighbouring countries, with millions more struggling to survive inside Syria. They are crammed in camps with poor access to food, clean water or education.

The renewed conflict in the Middle East has made life even more uncertain, with many still trying to recover following a massive earthquake in 2023. World Vision is in Syria working to provide children and families with emergency food, clean water, education support, and mental health and psychosocial care, thanks to our dedicated staff and supporters. But the need is so great. Years of war and terror have left lasting scars for children and families who've lost everything. Right now, every $1 you give now will provide $6 worth of urgent support to help children survive, recover and build a future.

Khaled dreams of going home

When Khaled’s family fled the conflict in Syria, they had to leave everything behind — their home, their belongings, and the life they once knew.

Khaled dreams of a different future. Like many children growing up in the camps, he gets to learn, and play, however he dreams to one day return home. Years of conflict and recent disasters have forced millions of Syrian families to flee, leaving children without the safety and stability every child deserves.

Right now, every $1 you give now will provide $6 worth of urgent support to help children survive, recover and build a future.

“Boys and girls aged five or six can name every type of bomb by its sound, but sometimes can barely write their name having missed out on an education.”

- Johan Mooij, World Vision Syria Response Director.

An entire generation has been lost to this conflict.

An entire generation has been lost to this conflict.

15 years of war in Syria represents the greatest humanitarian failure of our time for every single child.

Years of conflict have left deep psychological scars. Many children have witnessed violence, lost family members, or continue to live in constant uncertainty. Risks of child labour, child marriage, and violence remain widespread.

“The end of the internal conflict has brought hope, but it has not ended the suffering. Syria’s children need sustained support now more than ever."
Emmanuel Isch, Director of World Vision Syria Response
