Healthy and happy at school

Healthy and happy at school

For 14-year-old Laboni, school used to be a place of distress rather than opportunity.

You see, her junior high school had no proper toilets. Students were forced to use open spaces around the school, and had nowhere to wash their hands.

You can imagine how polluted, foul-smelling, and unsafe this was.

Children were often sick, which meant they had to miss school. For those students able to attend, the stench made it hard to concentrate.

And it was especially unsafe for girls like Laboni, who had nowhere private to manage their periods. She shares:

“It was very difficult for us. The school environment was not clean, and many of us became sick.”

It was the same in Laboni’s village. Most families didn’t know about the importance of good hygiene habits, so people were often sick from water-related disease.

Can you imagine their relief when sponsors like you helped change that?

Your compassion-in-action helped build safe, child-friendly toilets at Laboni’s school. You helped students and the wider community learn about the importance of handwashing and good hygiene. You installed tube wells, so families had safe, clean water to drink.

And the difference your love has made for children like Laboni is profound.

Today, her school is clean. The smell has gone. Students attend regularly, missing far less school due to illness.

What’s more, girls like Laboni now have privacy, dignity, and the confidence they’ll be safe at school, as Laboni shares:

“After receiving toilets at our school from World Vision, I attend school regularly. I’m healthy, and our environment is fresh.”

Your care travelled beyond the school grounds too.

In Laboni’s village, children and adults are healthier. They have fewer medical expenses. Their environment is cleaner and safer. And the whole community is committed to maintaining their sanitation facilities and practicing good hygiene into the future.

What a transformation you’ve been part of for Laboni, her family, and her whole community. Thank you so much for your kindness!

Beyond Laboni’s school, you helped children like 19-year-old Shamima learn about the importance of good hygiene habits. Your care has given children the tools they need to stay healthy – for life!
