It's not child marriage. It's child abuse.

*The children depicted in this campaign are not victims of child marriage but represent the many girls who are.

You can help end child marriage today.

It’s known as ‘child marriage’, but in reality, it’s child abuse. COVID-19 has made the poorest even poorer. Thousands more girls as young as 8 years old are now at risk of being married off to men three or four times their age, just to keep food on the table.

By sponsoring a girl, you’ll protect her from exploitation. You’ll help break the cycle of poverty, provide support for her education, keep her healthy and keep her safe.

Choose a girl to sponsor to help end child marriage.

You can make the difference for a girl facing child marriage.

Ilham was just 11 years old when her father sold her into marriage.

Stuck in the cycle of poverty, Ilham's future was destined to follow the same path as her mother. Ilham's mother was just a child herself when she was sold into early marriage. No child should ever be a bride.

Through the support of people like you, Ilham has been spared this abusive fate and is now free to be a child. At a World Vision Community Change Group, Ilham's mother learned that women and girls have rights. She then fought for her daughter's safety and freedom.

By sponsoring a girl, you’ll protect her from exploitation. You’ll help break the cycle of poverty, provide support for her education and give her a chance to reach her dreams.

We urgently need your help to stop 1,000 child marriages just like Ilham's, before November 20th. You can’t stop all child marriages. But you can stop one. If you act now.

Sponsoring a girl protects her from exploitation by tackling the root causes of poverty.

FAQs

FAQs

How does sponsoring a girl help end child marriage?
Sponsoring a girl protects her from exploitation. Through child sponsorship, you help break the cycle of poverty, supporting families to protect their children from dangerous situations. Girls that are sponsored are regularly monitored, which keeps them safe. They are more likely to go to school and receive regular healthcare check-ups.

What defines child marriage?
There are different legal ages for marriage in different countries, but World Vision defines a child as under 18. Many countries have a legal age for marriage of 18 but have exceptions (e.g. you can marry from 16 in NZ with your parents’ permission) or the law is not adequately enforced.

If I sponsor a child where does my money go?
Your money does not go directly to your sponsor child, or their family, but enables World Vision to work with their entire community to have an even bigger impact and make long-term sustainable change for everyone. As a member of this community, your Sponsor Child receives the benefits of this incredible change and their own lives are transformed.

How long will I sponsor my child?
In most cases, it will be throughout their childhood and into their teens. Most children will be in the sponsorship programme until their community has begun to reach most of its goals, and become self-sustainable. As a project comes to a close we will let you know of the achievements in the community so you can celebrate with us.
