Childhood Rescue

Thank you for the difference you're making.
Kids living in dangerous places or caught in crisis are surviving, recovering and building a future– because of you.

Thank you for helping children in the world's most dangerous places.

Children growing up in the world's toughest places are just like the kids in your neighbourhood. They want to laugh, play, go to school and grow up free from fear. But instead, they're fleeing bullets and facing starvation. They can't choose a different childhood. But you can. Your gift to Childhood Rescue is changing lives. Because of you, kids who have been through so much can be kids again. You're helping them to survive, recover and build a future. None of this would be possible without you.

You're reaching the world's most vulnerable kids, when they need you the most

You're reaching the world's most vulnerable kids, when they need you the most

In the world's most dangerous places, children are frightened. For good reason. But you're helping them to stay safe and survive. You're standing with kids caught in emergencies – wherever they need you most.

From Ukraine and Afghanistan to Ethiopia, Syria and beyond, you're helping children to survive by providing life-saving food, water, medicine, shelter, protection and so much more. You're helping children to recover from trauma with counselling and specialist care.

You're helping the adults around them to keep them safe. You're empowering children who've lost everything to build the future they deserve. Thank you.

Here are some of the places you're reaching vulnerable children:

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Mali, Moldova, Myanmar, Niger, Romania, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Uganda, Ukraine

27,075 families received life-saving food assistance in Herat, Afghanistan.

6.4 million children received emergency support in 2021.

4,034 severely malnourished children received therapeutic milk, medicines and special nutritional paste to regain their health and strength in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

1.1 billion meals were distributed to those in need in 2021. That is over 2,000 meals every minute.

A huge thank you from Afghanistan.

Asuntha Charles, World Vision's National Director in Afghanistan, is working in Herat and has an important message for you.

She wants you to know what a massive difference you're making in children's lives.

In Afghanistan right now, half of all kids younger than age 5 are at risk of dying from hunger. Can you imagine half of all under-5s in New Zealand being one step away from starvation?

You are helping to save many precious lives with emergency food, child health checks, support to recover from malnutrition and more. Thank you!

"I miss my friends from back home but I have made new friends here too. I like playing volleyball, tennis and jumping ropes," says Mastewal, age 11.

Thank you for giving children separated from their parents safe places to play and support to help them recover from trauma.

"I really like drawing. It makes me happy. I’m drawing the heroes from computer games, films and cartoons," says Nikolay, age 8. Thank you for welcoming children who have left everything behind with toys, art supplies and essentials to make a refugee shelter feel more like home.

"I am pregnant now, and I could not be more grateful for this toilet right outside the tent for our private use only," says Zoubaida. Thank you for giving refugee children and families living in crowded tent settlements clean, private toilets to protect their health.

Your kindness means so much to Ukrainian children who've lost almost everything.

Kira (7)

When 7-year-old Kira had to leave her home in Ukraine for Romania, the most precious thing she brought with her was her small terrier, whom she loves dearly. My dog's name is Busya. She’s very sweet,” says Kira. “She kisses me almost every day on the nose.”

Kira’s grandma, Ella, says the family brought very little from home. “We took only our documents and the clothes that we had worn for the past seven days.” Their home was destroyed after they left. “We don’t have a house,” Ella says. “We cry for our house. And we’re going into the unknown."

Thank you for making sure Kira and her grandma won’t enter the unknown empty-handed. “We can’t thank the people who helped us enough,” says Ella. “We received clothes from volunteers because we ran with only the dirty clothes on our back.”

"One day, I walked to the fields to join my mum and dad picking beans. There were rebels all around them. Our neighbour warned me to run because the rebels were about to kill my parents. So I ran. A few months later I felt brave enough to look for them. I found their bones in the bushes."

"There is a lot of stigma against orphans of war. People feel that we are nothing without a family. I heard about this place we can go for support. At first, I couldn't join the other children because I felt very sorry about my parents. But now we play together, and the group sessions make me feel better."

and now, she is building a future.

and now, she is building a future.

"I like this place so much... it makes me feel happy again. They also teach us to read, how to write and we get some training so I can complete my education and get a job in the future. I need to be supported with my education, to complete it. When I grow up, I want to be a school mistress."
