Children in Crisis

Half a billion children are living in crisis

Alongside World Vision, you can reach vulnerable children in the most challenging circumstances who cannot be reached through Child Sponsorship. Our Children in Crisis fund allows us to provide critical support through famine, war and deadly epidemics.

Right now we are providing emergency food and nutrition clinics in South Sudan, water tanks and toilets in Northern Syria, and health and nutrition services in Afghanistan.

When you join World Vision and sign up to support Children in Crisis, your donation goes further thanks to our partnerships across the UN. Partnering is a critical way we can make change happen quickly and foster innovative solutions all over the world.

This means your monthly donation of $20 multiplies to $100 and enables us to respond quickly in the aftermath of a disaster, or in the midst of conflict or trauma. It ensures we can be prepared, we can act and we can help. Our partners include:

  • The World Food Programme
  • Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
  • United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
  • United Nations Development Programme
  • Food & Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations
  • United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund

Be there, when children need you most

Famine has been officially declared in parts of South Sudan

Famine has been officially declared in parts of South Sudan

Children are facing violence, displacement and hunger with 5.5 million South Sudanese facing severe food shortages this year. A combination of conflict and drought have caused this famine and the numbers already impacted are worse than predicted just a few weeks ago.

Perry Mansfield, National Director for World Vision in South Sudan says: “The situation facing children who were already hungry and going without meals is now rapidly unravelling."

We’re in South Sudan working to provide water, food, sanitation, healthcare, education and child protection programmes.

Conflict in Syria

Conflict in Syria

Children like Samer, 14, fled Syria with almost nothing. He helps support his family in the refugee camp in Jordan by selling vegetables instead of going to school. Recently though, Samer joined a World Vision life-skill training; "I know it's not a school, but I learned so much," he proudly told us.  You can be there to support children whose lives have been torn apart through the Syrian conflict. They have lost homes, loved-ones, and their childhoods.

We’re there in the camps providing education, child friendly spaces and practical items like heaters, fuel and lighting to improve children's safety.

Drought in Afghanistan

Drought in Afghanistan

The people of Badghis, Afghanistan have been affected by back-to-back droughts for the past two years. Families living in this area are now in a state of perpetual crisis with children having to walk 15km to collect water.

We have built new wells, constructed pipelines and trained village leaders on how to manage their water systems to ensure every person has water security for the long term. Right now we are providing nutrition and health services to displaced people outside Herat.

How this helps

Your support of Children in Crisis is so important because it enables us to help vulnerable children who cannot be reached through Child Sponsorship. We are providing critical support such as education, healthcare and anti-trafficking programmes in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Thanks to you, we can be there to help children in crisis.

Where your money goes

For 45 years we have worked hard to make sure that all resources entrusted to us are used as efficiently and effectively as possible to bring maximum impact to children and communities in need. As we work in partnership with others, for every $1 you give to Children in Crisis we can increase our impact to $5 worth of aid.
