Cyclone Winston Response

Families in Fiji say thank you

As the strongest tropical cyclones to ever make landfall in Fiji, Cyclone Winston took a devastating toll on Fiji. Over 350,000 were affected with homes destroyed, and vital infrastructure like power and water severely damaged. Thanks to the support of generous Kiwis, we were able to respond to urgent needs.

What we've achieved

Cyclone Winston caused widespread damage

Cyclone Winston caused widespread damage

World Vision assessments showed shelter was an urgent need and with your help we flew in tarpaulins and shelter kits. Working with Habitat for Humanity on the ground we have reached over 1,000 families with vital shelter in Rakiraki, Dawasamu, Makorotubu and Lautoka.

Building back better

Building back better

We are continuing our work and training on how to ‘build back better’ to ensure homes and schools are stronger for future emergencies. In partnership with other NGOs we have shipped extra tarpaulins, cooking equipment and blankets to those in need.

Thank you

Thank you

The Asia-Pacific region is highly disaster-prone for emergencies such as tropical cyclones and tsunamis. Your donation to our Pacific-Asia Emergency Fund meant we were able to provide urgent shelter to families in Fiji. Of course, nothing can replace the precious lives lost, but thanks to you communities can stand stronger and more resilient than ever.
